Hurriyat (G) in a statement today said that 3 members of the Indian delegation headed by Former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha, called on the amalgam chairman Syed Ali Geelani at 10 am at his Hyderpora residence which the issue of education was discussed briefly. Pertinently, this was second meet between the group in three days.
Pertinently, in Srinagar for a three-day visit, the group’s first stop was at the home of Hurriyat hardliner Sayed Ali Geelani. Just two months ago, Mr Geelani had flatly refused to meet the lawmakers from an all-party delegation who had visited his home.
Geelani meeting the Sinha delegation is seen as a first step by political pundits towards dialogue in Kashmir .Many have opined that Kashmir is heading to disaster if no dialogue takes place and it seems that veterans pro-freedom leader has realized the need and importance to restore links and path of dialogue to give some relief to the masses of Kashmir.
It is seen as positive development by many that this time both Geelani and Mirwaiz met the delegation which included Yashwant Sinha.
One hopes institution of dialogue gets restored in Kashmir and a path of reconciliation is opened up via which political issues, differences are ironed out and Kashmir sees no bloodshed. While the former External Affairs minister insisted that the members of the group are visiting in their individual capacity and not as part of a Track II initiative, the government has released senior Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq ahead of the visit to facilitate talks.
