Srinagar: Frosty weather continued to bite Kashmir region with temperatures falling to season’s record low of minus 5.2 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, weatherofficial told that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.2 Deg Cel against minus 3.8 Deg Cel yesterday.
The mercury plummeted in other areas of the valley with Pahalgam, one of the world famous hill resorts in soutman said here on Saturday. Leh, the capital of Ladakh, remained coldest with minimum temperatures plunging to minus 16 deg Celsius.

The other southern Kashmir areas, Kokernag and Qazigund also continued to reel under intense cold, recording minus 2.6 Deg Cel and minus 4.6 degree Celsius respectively.  Northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district also saw mercury far below sub-zero level, recording at minus 4.7 Deg Cel.
Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded the minimum temperature similar to that in Pahalgam and the places were coldest in the entire Kashmir valley, the MeT said.
The cold was deep in Ladakh region as Leh recorded minus 16.0 Deg Cel against 15.0 degrees Celsius on precious occasion.  Kargil, the second most inhabited region in cold desert, recorded a low of minus 10.8 Degrees Celsius.
Clear skies and dry air causes the dramatic drop in temperatures, the MeT said while forecasting similar weather in next 24-hours in Kashmir region.
