Boy killed, another hurt in Mendhar blast

Srinagar: A boy was killed and another injured in a blast in Mendhar area of Poonch district on Saturday evening.

Correspondent from Jammu said that 11-year-old Mohammad Iftikhar, son of Mohammad Lateef was killed and his younger brother, Shokwat Hussain was injured when an explosive device went off near Army’s firing range in Bera Datti area of Mendhar town in Poonch district this evening. The injured youth was rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

The duo was searching for scrap at the firing range when they fiddled with an explosive device.

“A boy died and another injured in the explosion that was apparently caused by a detonator. We’re investigating the case,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Manmohan Singh told.
