Fresh drive against use of tinted glasses

Srinagar: Fresh drive has been launched in the Kashmir valley, particularly in Srinagar, against the use of black films and tinted glasses in all private and government vehicles.

The drive was started in the past also but was suddenly stopped for unknown reasons.

The Superintendent of Police, Traffic today warned that vehicles found with black films or tinted glasses would be impounded after August 20.

He said all motorists are informed that as per the directions of the Supreme Court and state Government, use of black films and tinted glasses upon the safety glasses, wind screens (front and rear) and side glasses has been prohibited and action warranted is operative and enforceable with effect from May 4, 2012.

Vigorous drive against use of black films and tinted glasses is in full swing and any such prohibited material is being removed on spot besides fine as prescribed by Motor Vehicle (MV) Act is being recovered from the violators.

Now, in the larger interest of the public safety, it is decided that beyond August 20, 2012 any government or private vehicle found with black films or tinted glasses shall be impounded as per the directions of the High court in a public interest litigation titled Davinder Singh Jasrotia vs state and others for contempt of Supreme court directions.
