Srinagar, June 28(KMW): Jammu Kashmir Police have blamed four men for the killing of veteran Journalist Syed Shujhat Bukhari- the owner of Daily Rising Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, SP Pani said that the plot to assassinate Shujhat Bukhari was hatched by Lashkar-e-Toiba and the plans were made in Pakistan.
“We have tangible evidence to establish these were done from Pakistan. The evidence we have in cooperation of service providers is that they belong to Pakistan.â€
IG Pani displayed photographs of accused including Sajjad Gul LeT operative from Srinagar, Azad Ahmad Malik alias Dada from Anantnag, Muzafar Ahmad Bhat and Naveed Jatt. Police said the brain behind this conspiracy is Sajjad Gul.
He said the investigating team found the use of social media in plotting the conspiracy to kill the editor of Rising Kashmir. “Sajjad Gul was earlier arrested by Delhi Police in 2003, and later in 2016 by Jammu Kashmir police in militancy related cases. He left the country in March 2016, and a red corner notice will be procured against him. We have strong evidence which establishes that it was done by him.â€
The Police, however, did not say anything about the motive behind the killing.
Shujhat Bukhari along with his two security guards were killed by unknown armed men outside his office in Press Enclave Srinagar.
