Srinagar: Five people were killed and 12 others were injured in different road accidents in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said here today.
They said four people were injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road at Daksum in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The injured – Abdul Wahid Ahanger, Abdul Rehman Wani, Nigeena and Tahir Iqbal – all residents of Kishtwar in Jammu region were admitted to hospital.
Later Ahanger died in the hospital, they added.
Two minors – Towheeda Khursheed and her brother Wamiq Khursheed – were injured when a vehicle hit them at Heewan in Baramulla. The injured were rushed to hospital where Towheeda succumbed.
The vehicle was seized, they said adding the driver fled from the spot.
Two passengers – Abida and Ghulam Rasool Sheikh – were killed on the spot when a vehicle in which they were travelling turned turtle at Sopore crossing. Four other passengers were injured and had to be hospitalised.
A load carrier turned turtle at Foreshore road in the city outskirts resulting in injuries to three people. The injured were admitted to SKIMS where one Mohsin Ahmad Bhat died.
A pedestrian Mohammad Akbar Mir was hit and injured by a vehicle at Gukhana Kunzar on Srinagar-Gulmarg road while a motorcyclist hit and wounded a girl Rizwana at Sagam in south Kashmir. Both the injured were hospitalised.
