Encounter in Shallapora Sopore

Srinagar: An encounter borke out at Shallapora Sopore today after police received a tip off suggesting presence of militants in the area.

“Police had specific information regarding the presence of militants in Shallapora, Sopore. The area was cordoned in a joint operation by Police, 22RR and CRPF personnel. The militants fired upon the party. The area has been cordoned and search is going on”, said a police spokesperson.
Police said one CRPF personnel Sumith Kumar of 179 Bn CRPFgot injured during cross fire.
Pertinently, militants had earlier fired upon an army convoy near Hotel Silver Star here killing a hotel staffer and injuring three others.
