Srinagar, July 27 : With the separatists asking people to observe Eid with simplicity in protest of the Gaza crises, the call from the pro-freedom camp is hitting the city markets with the people seem less interested in leaving homes for Eid shopping.
According to the (news agency) correspondent, People are less in number on roads of Srinagar for the eid shopping with the shopkeepers claiming that their business was comparatively less this year.
Also several people stated that the delay in the disbursement of the salaries of the employees also became the spoilsport ahead of Eid. “I have not received my salary. I will receive it on Monday. This would be bizarre for me to wander the Srinagar markets without any buck in pocket,†said Khurshid Ahmad, a government employee.
Firdous Yaseen, a shopkeeper at Lal Chowk selling the garments stated that despite various new varieties, the shoppers this time seem to be less impressed by them, mainting distance from the shops.
A student of Islamia college Srinagar, Aamir told (agency) that he along with his friends has decided not to buy brand new clothes for Eid as the situation in Gaza where the ‘massacre’ of Muslims is being carried out is wounding the souls of the Muslim world. “I have also told my family not to buy any bakery for Eid as only a stone hearted person would not mourn over the Gaza deaths. You need not to be a Muslim for protesting against Gaza, if you are a human, you will cry for the mayhem that is being witnessed in Palestine,†he said.
His other friends joined him, saying that against the Gaza situation, youth must register their protests by observing Eid with simplicity. “My conscience will never allow me to celebrate and crack jokes when Gaza is crying for help. In a bid to show solidarity with the people of Palestine, we are observing Eid sans any celebrations,†said Junaid Nazir, a student of BSC.
Let the Arabs enjoy this carnage, we will never. Despite being less in number, we want to show to the world that the people of Kashmir share the grief of Gaza, said a retired employee at Lal Chowk. He maintained that this is the time when we have to listen to our conscience and observe eid with soberness.
