Dr Jitendra Singh lays foundation stone of FM studio at Udhampur

Srinagar, March 05(KMW): Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space laid the foundation stone of an FM transmitter with studio facilities at Udhampur today.
Director General of All India Radio, Fayaz Shehreyar was also present on the occassion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that the people of Udhampur had long been demanding a radio station and this station will serve as a platform for the local artists of the region.
Describing the radio station as the first of its kind, Dr Singh said that two similar radio stations will be set up in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in the near future.
Stating that almost 65 per cent of the population of the country is less than the age of 35 years, Dr Singh said that the radio station will serve the dual purpose of being an outlet for creativity as well as an opportunity to showcase talent for the youth population.
Later the minister also inaugurated the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra at Post Office Udhampur. He said that Udhampur is the first district after Jammu and Srinagar to get a Passport Seva Kendra.
Talking to media persons after the event, Dr Singh said that the government is taking multiple steps to ensure collective development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that the Chenani-Nashri road tunnel is likely to be inaugurated any time after March 15.
