Ambala: Army Kharga Corps General officer Commanding (GOC) Lt Gen A S Chhabewal today said presence of Chinese Army troops in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) should not be taken very seriously but should not however, be ignored from security view point.
The Army Officer said, “Attempts of intrusions being made by the third country were of serious nature and the Indian Army knew of it.” Interacting with media after laying wreaths at Vijay Stambh, he said the Indian Army was ready to face any eventuality.
He, however, allayed any immediate fears from the Chinese side and said the situation was not the same as was in previous times.
Replying to a question, he said the Army land scams were tarnishing the image of defence forces.
He, however, pointed out that there was no question of land grabbing by the Army since cantonment lands were not under their control. The charge of land in cantonments was with the Defence Estate Directorate and they should be held responsible for these scams.
He said the Adarsh and Sukhna scams were result of the mistakes committed by the Defence Estate Directorate.
He said the Premier Strike Corps of the Indian Army was celebrating the 40th anniversary after it came into being on October 7, 1971. Lt Gen T N Raina was the founder of GoC of this elite corps.
Under his leadership, the Corps got the opportunity to participate in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
