Death toll hits 94 in four days: official sources

KARACHI: No major terrorist activity has been reported in the troubled areas of Karachi after action was conducted by security agencies, Geo News reported. Three people were killed Saturday due to incidents of firing in different areas and the police have claimed that 157 arrests have been made since Friday night. The toll now stands at 94 in four days of clashes, sources said.
Many areas of Orangi Town and Baldia have been witnessing severe firing since Tuesday. Passenger buses have been set ablaze and homes and shops have been attacked by rockets and hand grenades.
In Orangi town, Kati Pahri, Qasba Colony, Aligarh Colony, Banaras Colony, Baldia and other areas the situation is improving. No major terrorist activity has been reported from these areas but the situation still remains volatile. In Qasba Colony a bullet riddled body was found and six including four members of a family were injured due to firing.
In PIB Colony, which is located near the central jail, two people were killed due to firing.
According to official sources in four days of violence 94 people have been killed while 222 were injured. The most deaths over the course of the last four days have taken place in Orangi Town, hospital sources add.
From July 5 to 9 am on July 6, 18 bodies were brought to Abbasi Shaheed, Civil and Qatar hospitals. In the next 24 hours 16 bodies and 30 injured people were brought to the hospitals.
Between 7th and 8th July, 39 bodies and 83 injured people were brought to the hospitals. According to MLOs, from Friday to Saturday morning 9 am, 21 bodies and 64 injured people were brought to hospitals.
According to sources, many bodies of the deceased were taken by their relatives without a post mortem being conducted or police investigations being launched. Rangers and police are taking action in the worst affected areas and so far 157 arrests have been made.
