DC Kargil Visits Nam Suru to review Preparations for Suru Summer Festival

Kargil, August 7: Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar IAS today visited Yokma Namsuru in the Sub-Division Sankoo to review the on-ground preparations for the upcoming Suru Summer Festival and to take stock of various developmental and public issues facing the area.

Councillor Parkachik Agha Ainul Huda, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sankoo, Executive Engineers from PHE Kargil, Mechanical Division, I&FC Kargil, SVD Sankoo, Tehsildar Taisuru, Assistant Director Tourism Kargil, Block Development Officer Taisuru, among other sectoral officers accompanied the DC.

During the visit to the event site at Yokma Namsuru the DC issued directions for the smooth conduct of the Suru Summer Fest. He instructed the concerned departments to coordinate closely, including NHIDCL, Mechanical, and RDD, for landscaping of the main venue for better event infrastructure.

Highlighting the need to promote tourism and local employment, the DC directed the Assistant Director, Tourism, to explore additional attractions for the festival. He suggested including traditional attire showcases, local archery competitions, and establishing various adventure sports counters such as paragliding and rafting to enhance  participation.

He instructed Youth Services and Sports Department to ensure the installation of flags along riverbanks, while the PHE Department was directed to provide steel poles for infrastructure support. The DC also emphasized showcasing local artifacts and exploring previously untapped cultural and tourism potentials.

He reviewed various logistical aspects including stage setup, stall installation, aeromodelling displays, shamiyanas, and directed the SVD Sankoo to maintain proper coordination throughout the preparation phase. Additionally, the DC visited the Gongma Namsuru Vintage View Point to assess its tourism potential.

Later, at Kochik, public grievances relating to water scarcity, lift irrigation, and road macadamisation were presented. The DC instructed PHE to examine the feasibility of lift-based irrigation systems and informed that works related to macadamisation are in process. He emphasized that the Rural Development Department devise sustainable and low-cost solutions to address core issues of the village.

Earlier, the DC visited the construction site of the SDM Office at Sankoo, where he reviewed the progress of work and sought updates on Administrative Approval (AA) and other formalities. He directed the executing agencies to expedite the construction and also proposed that the nearby quarter complex be converted into a sanitary complex for functional utility.
