Amritsar: The Dal Khalsa today greeted the people of Palestine on their historic win in the UN General Assembly vote that would upgrade their country’s status to non-member observer state at the world body.
Notably, India was among the 138 nations in the 193-member body that voted in favour of the resolution, while US and Israel strongly opposed the bid.
Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the achievement was a big step in the history of Palestinian struggle for statehood. Expressing his party’s solidarity with the people of Palestine and their cause, he said the day was significant not only for the people of Palestine but for all those ethnic nationalities around the globe including Kashmiris, Sikhs and others that have been nurturing the desire for statehood.
He said the question of Palestine was still unresolved and that the Palestinian people are yet to attain their inalienable rights including the right to self-determination without external interference and the right to national independence and sovereignty.
He urged the US and other countries that opposed the move in UN to reconsider their position and think favourably to support the just cause of Palestinians’ for the sake of peace and justice as the people of Palestine have seen enough bloodshed, and they have gone through hardships, trauma and sufferings since long.
