Committee discusses measures to check infant mortality rate in SMGS Hospital

JAMMU: The Committee constituted to monitor the functioning of SMGS hospitals Srinagar and Jammu met under the chairmanship of Member Legislative Assembly, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia at Jammu today.

MLA’s Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Jan, Ch. Zulfkar Ali, Durga Dass, Mr. Charanjit Singh, Mr. Jugal Kishore, Principal Government Medical College Dr. Aneece Choudhary, Medical Superintendent SMGS and senior officers were present in the meeting.
Principal Government Medical College, Jammu, Dr. Annece Chowdhary informed the meeting that the institution is catering to about 400 patients in the OPD and other referral cases. He also informed that the new 200 bedded hospital has also been taken over from JKPCC and has been made functional.
Medical Superintendent gave a resume of the current staff position in the institution and said that various posts have been referred to the concerned agencies to improve manpower for smooth functioning of the hospital.
Mr. Mankotia said that the institution is a prime health unit is catering to heavy rush of patients and there is a large scope to improve and streamline the functioning of the hospital. He said that the adequate facilities and upgradation should be taken up on priority to keep a check on mortality rate of infants in the state.
Members of the Committee expressed satisfaction over the healthcare facilities being provided to the patients and exhorted the need to ensure adequate staff and said that the process of recruitment should be expedite by the concerned authorities so that healthcare facilities are not affected.
The Committee took a detailed review of the functioning of various units of SMGS hospital and was apprised about the healthcare services being provided to the patients.
The Committee members also asked the concerned officers to furnish a report regarding the requirements for improving equipments for the institution.
They stressed the need for ensuring that the patients are provided apt healthcare facilities and there is no laxity in this regard. They also asked to maintain a check on the referral cases from the private health institution and take strict action against those institutions which fail to cater to emergency cases and risk patients life due to inadequate facilities.
The Committee members asked to improve healthcare facilities at the peripheral institutions so that there is decline in the referral cases to SMGS.
Later, the Committee Members inspected the various units and interacted with the patients and inquired about the service provided to them. (KMW News)
