Srinagar: Cold wave conditions further intensified in Kashmir valley, where world famous Dal Lake, other water bodies and taps remained frozen.
People continued to shiver due to severe cold in Ladakh region where Kargil Recorded the coldest night of the season after minimum dropped to minus 17.4 degree Celsius.
There will be no major change in the weather, which will remain mainly dry over the state during the next two days, a Met department spokesman said here this afternoon.
He said yesterday was the coldest day of the winter when the maximum dropped to minus one degree, six degrees below normal in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the minimum temperature also dropped to minus 3.3 degrees, a degree below normal. However, coldest night in Srinagar was recorded on January 8 when the temperature dropped to minus 5.5 degrees.
Correspondent who visited world famous Dal Lake saw major parts of the famed water body frozen, attracting locals and tourists who were throwing stones and snow balls on frozen surface and posing for photographs.
Other water bodies and taps remained frozen, resulting in water shortage in many areas.
However, people were seen trying to defreeze frozen taps using all methods, including burning wood and blue lamps.
Due to minus temperature during the day, snow remained frozen on roof tops, trees and both sides of roads.
The sky will remain generally cloudy tomorrow in Srinagar, he added. (KMW News)
