Cold further intensifies in Kashmir,Srinagar minus 4.5 deg, Leh 16.6

Srinagar: Cold conditions further intensified in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where the minimum temperature dropped further due to clear sky during the night.

There would be no large change and the weather will remain mainly dry and cold over the Jammu and Kashmir during the next two days, a Met department spokesman said.

After witnessing above six degrees maximum temperature yesterday, people woke up to a chilly morning in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the minimum dropped to minus 4.5 degree this morning, which was more than two notches below normal.

Parts of the Dal Lake and other water bodies were again frozen this morning due to cold.

There was also further drop in the night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam where the minimum was recorded minus 7.5 degree and minus 7.4 degree this morning against yesterday’s minus 7 degree and minus 6.3 degree respectively.

Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, recorded minus 5 degree followed by Kupwara minus 4.1 degree and Kokernag minus 3.6 degree.

People in the Ladakh region continued to shiver due to chilly weather though there was slight improvement in the minimum temperature.

At Leh, it was minus 16.6 degree against yesterday’s minus 17 degree while at border town of Kargil, the minimum was minus 15.2 degree against yesterday’s minus 15.8 degree. (KMW News)
