Srinagar: Army claimed that it averted a major tragedy after detecting and defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near HMT, Shalateng in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The Army spokesman said that an IED weighing around 10 Kilograms, kept on road, near HMT was detected by its men belonging to 2 RR.
He said that if it could have exploded, it could have caused massive damage to life and property. “The important thing was that there was CM movement in the area, but we detected it through an important instrument called ‘Ashi Equipment’,” a top Army official told CNS and added that this instrument blocks the improvised device and ultimately it doesn’t explode, even if militants try to blow it up.
The sleuths from Bomb Disposal Squad later defused the device.
Station House Officer, Parimpora, Vinod Kumar said that he is not authorized to speak on the matter. However, a police official said that IED was detected and diffused by police and Army jointly.
Meanwhile, commuters and passengers faced lot of incontinence due to the presence of IED.
