Srinagar: Ten people were hurt Wednesday when police fired pump action shotguns at stone-throwing protesters across Kashmir valley, where more than 69 people have died during anti-India protests.
Police said the incident took place in Bemina area of Srinagar.
“Some miscreants pelted stones heavily on the police. The police used (teargas) and pump action ammunition to chase them away,” a police said, adding that ten people were hurt. Doctors said one was in a critical condition.
“Situation across the valley remained by and large peaceful barring few incidents of stone pelting at Behama Chowk in Ganderbal ,Main Chowk in Sopore, Habak crossing and Sabzi Mandi Soura in Srinagar, Galwanpora Hyderpora in Budgam, police said in a statement to Agence India Press.
A group of miscreants resorted to pelting stones near SDA complex Bemina. The unruly mob torched a truck bearing registration no. JK01C/7236. Police chased them away using mild lathie charge and tear smoke shells.

The scenic region has been under rolling curfews to contain protests that began with the killing June 11 of a teenage student by a police teargas shell in Srinagar.

In some localities of civil lines that include old Barzulla, Chanpora and Hyderpora people took to streets and held protests demonstration.
Protests were also held in Batmaloo and Bemina, however, they were chased by the men in uniform.
Though curfew was not imposed in Central district of Budgam and Ganderbal however restrictions coupled with strike call paralyzed the life. In Ompora area of Budgam people held a peaceful protest demonstration.
T he locals alleged that the CRPF men went berserk, barged into the houses, beat up the inmates and stormed the houses in Zakura and Habak. Later the people of the area again took to roads and staged protests against the CRPF. Reports said that following the massive protests by the people.
