Civil Defense Mock Drill Successfully Conducted in Kargil

Kargil, May 07: In a proactive effort to bolster community resilience and preparedness, a comprehensive Civil Defense Mock Drill was successfully organized today at Dyanguchay, Minji and the Residential Quarters of LAHDC Kargil under the supervision of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kargil. The programme aimed to sensitize citizens to effective emergency responses in the event of natural or man-made disasters.

The event witnessed the participation of several officials including SSP Kargil Shri Ram R (IPS); Additional District Magistrate (CEO,DDMA) Imteeaz Kacho; Chief Medical Officer,Dr.Kacho Liyakat Ali; Assistant Commissioner Development,Raziya Khatoon; Headquarter Assistant to DC,Kaneez Fatima; State Leprosy Officer,
Dr.Fatima  Nissa; Assistant Director, Information,Raza Ali Abidi,Deputy Superintendent of Police,UTDRF,Asif Hussain; Chief Education Officer,
S.D. Namgyal and District Tourism Officer Ghulam Rasool Lal among others whose presence reinforced the administration’s commitment to public safety.

Volunteers from Aapda Mitra, Baseej IKMT, Al-Reza – JUIAK, Baqirya Health Care & Research Centre, Anjuman Sahib Zaman, Civil Defense, NCC cadets of Government Degree College, Kargil, Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School,Kargil and DDMA students of University of Ladakh’s Kargil Campus participated actively, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm and coordination throughout the drills.

The drill featured detailed, hands-on training sessions. A DDMA Inspector conducted a demonstration on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), explaining the crucial steps of checking airway, breathing and circulation, followed by 30 chest compressions for unconscious individuals. This interactive session equipped attendees with vital life-saving techniques.

A key highlight of the programme was the demonstration led by DySP Asif Hussain who meticulously explained the method of evacuating victims during emergencies and explained various types of sirens used during crisis situations—ranging from fire and earthquake alerts to bomb threat sirens. His session helped participants identify and respond quickly to emergency signals, enhancing situational awareness.

Participants were also trained on immediate response techniques—such as how to assist an unconscious person, how to lie flat and shield the head during sirens and how to remain calm and alert to minimize risk and help others.

The medical team conducted a live demonstration on first aid, emphasizing the importance of staying calm, making use of available resources and providing essential care until professional medical help arrives.

The programme concluded with the resonating message: “Be prepared, stay alert, act wisely, and save lives—including your own.”
