Centre approves alignment of NH-IB in J&K

Srinagar, Oct 31 : The Centre has approved alignment of national highway IB in Jammu and Kashmir to provide alternative road which will help connect vast areas of erstwhile Doda district with Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

Officals said Governor N N Vohra, keeping in view the strategic importance, both militarily and otherwise, of the Batote-Doda Road, in a letter on June 3, 2014 addressed to Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, had highlighted the vital requirement of linking a vast area.

Mr Vohra has also pointed out that the existing road is affected by cracks and sinking phenomenon, making it vulnerable to recurring road accidents.
