CEC Kargil distributes food kits to stranded drivers

CEC Kargil distributes food kits to stranded drivers

Kargil, March 01: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today distributed food kits to the stranded drivers at various locations in Kargil.

The initiative specifically targeted truck and Tata Mobile drivers who are stranded at the petrol pump, as well as drivers at Shilikchey and several other locations.

Along with the distribution of food kits, the CEC directed the relevant authorities to make arrangements for temporary accommodation for the stranded drivers.

Additionally, the district administration helpline number was shared to ensure that the drivers have access to further assistance whenever required.

Dr Akhoon highlighted that the Kargil-Srinagar National Highway is currently closed due to heavy snowfall at Zojilla Pass, which has compounded the difficulties faced by road users in the region.

Highlighting the operational challenges posed by the severe weather, the CEC stated that both manpower and machinery have been deployed for effective snow clearance from Minamarg towards Zojilla Axis.

In light of the holy month of Ramazan, the CEC expressed hope that the road would be opened for vehicular traffic soon, provided weather conditions remain favorable.

The CEC also reviewed the ongoing snow clearance efforts by Municipal Committee Kargil and commended their dedication and efficiency. He further appreciated all stakeholders and workers, for their efforts during these trying times.

The CEC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Administrator of Municipal Committee Kargil, Assistant Director, FCS&CA, Kargil, Accounts Officer to the DC Kargil, among others.
