GDC Kargil celebrates National Science Day

Kargil, March 01: Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil today celebrated National Science Day.

The program started with a welcome address by Prof. MNM Shabani, Senior Professor GDC Kargil. Further, he stressed that the students inculcate scientific temper for an envisioned Viksit Bharat and contribute to nation-building through science.

In the inaugural session, Mumtaz Ahmad, HOD Physics, delivered a talk on the significance of National Science Day, highlighting the contribution of the Raman Effect to physical sciences. He also encouraged students to pursue careers in scientific research.

The scientific session started with a talk by Dr Ismail (PhD Mathematics) where he elaborated about nano fluids and conductivity and their related mathematical equations.

The second scientific talk was presented by Dr Abid Hussain (PhD Physics), wherein he discussed about different fields of study in the subject of physics and emphasised on use of accelerators in the area of nuclear physics and condensed matter physics.

The scientific session was then followed by science quiz competition, wherein 05 teams participated, that included two teams from various schools of the area and 03 teams from GDC Kargil.

Rinchen Angmo, Assistant Prof. Botany, conducted the quiz session. Mutahhary Public School Kurbathang Kargil was the winner with first position followed by a team of GDC Kargil at 2nd position and the 3rd position was secured by Jaffaria Academy of Modern Education Kargil.

The quiz session was then followed by debate competition on this year’s theme of National Science Day-“Empowering Indian youth for Global leadership in Science and Innovations for Viksit Bharat” wherein Fatima Hoora from GDC Kargil secured 1st position, Sudiqa Banoo secured 2nd position and the 3rd position was adjudged to Zarin Fatima from MPS Kurbathang Kargil.

In the valedictory session, momentos of appreciation were presented to the speakers of the scientific session, followed by the distribution of certificates and prizes to the participants and winners, respectively. The program was attended by around 50 participants from various schools and the students from GDC Kargil.

Finally, the organizers headed by Mumtaz Ahmad (AP Physics), Mohd Raza (AP Biotech) and Razia Parveen (Sr. AP Botany) thanked the Principal of the college Prof. Disket Angmo for the cooperation and guidance.

Further, they thanked all the participants for the enthusiasm shown throughout the day, thereby making the program productive and successful. In addition, the organizers thanked DBT New Delhi for the support to GDC Kargil through DBT Star College Scheme.
