CEC chairs meeting for redevelopment of Baroo, Kargil town

Kargil, Dec 20: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a meeting to discuss redevelopment projects for Kargil town and Baroo areas. 

Executive Councillors Zakir Hussain, Kacho Mohd Feroz, and Er Punchok Tashi; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Director FCS&CA; Director Urban and Local Bodies joined virtually, Administrator Municipality; Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil; Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR); Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil; and beside other sectoral heads attended the meeting.

Councillors Baroo and Town constituency were also present to provide insights and discuss their constituencies’ developmental priorities.

During the meeting, Consultant Rigzin delivered a detailed presentation on various redevelopment projects planned for the Baroo area. The proposals included the development of green spaces, parking facilities, and other developmental activities to enhance the urban environment.

It was decided in the meeting that the Deputy Commissioner Kargil will visit on-spot to conduct site visits and identify suitable sites for proposed redevelopment projects of Baroo.

Regarding the construction of a mechanized multi-level parking facility in the main bazaar of Kargil, the Tehsildar informed the meeting that 4 kanals and 15 marlas of land are currently under the possession of various departments, including Tourism, FCS&CA, Handicrafts, Cooperatives and MC, Kargil .

Further, it was decided that a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of ADC to facilitate the handover of these buildings to the Municipality. 

It was informed that temporary arrangements will be made for the affected departments to ensure smooth functioning during the redevelopment process.

The CEC emphasized that a follow-up meeting will be held at the end of the month to assess progress on the identified projects.
