Srinagar: The birth anniversary of Guru Harbogindji was today celebrated in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region with religious gaiety and fervour.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah greeted the people on the occasion.
Members of the Sikh community, including women and children, wearing colourful dresses were visiting Gurdwaras since early this morning throughout the Kashmir valley and Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh region.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatti Pandsahi, Rainwari, on the foot hill of Kohi-e-Maran, where the shrine of Hazrat Mehboobul Aalam and Hindu Goddess are also located.
The divisional authorities had made elaborate arrangement for the devotees, who had come from different parts of the city.
There was langer at the Gurdwara permises, where devotees were served food and sharbat.
Similar functions were also held in Gurdwara at Baghat and Jawahar Nagar, where personnel from paramilitary forces also joined the functions.
Reports from Baramulla in south Kashmir and Tral in south Kashmir said hundreds of devotees offered prayers in Gurdwaras on the occasion.
Mr Vohra, has felicitated the people on the birth anniversary of Guru Hargobindji and expressed sincere hope that this auspicious occasion would strengthen the bonds of amity, harmony and brotherhood and be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the state.
In his message of greetings, the Governor said Guru Hargobindji’s noble example of selfless service, based on the high values of righteousness, truth and love, is even more relevant today than at any time in the past.
The Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the state.
In a greeting message, the Chief Minister wished well being of the people and peace and prosperity in the state.
