SRINAGAR: In its recent report Belgium Association for Solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir has lauded State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for his visionary leadership and prompt response to the demands of people and paying attention to their basic needs.
Describing Omar Abdullah a young leader, the Association has said that he has a vision, is hardworking, honest, listening to the demands of the people and paying attention to their basic needs.
The report said that the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir is facing multiple challenges including eradication of corruption, improvement in the functioning of administration, up-gradation of educational system and healthcare besides tackling terrorism.
A team of the Think Tank of Belgium Association led by Paul Beers mans during his visit to State recently had met a cross section of people here including separatist groups, mainstream political parties and other leaders of different shades of opinion.
It is worth to mention here that the initiatives taken by the Chief Minister in the educational sector to upgrade the skills of youth and enhance their employability are being appreciated widely. The creation of new 32 Polytechnic Colleges, 23 Degree Colleges and 50 ITIs across the State to give new dimension to the educational sector in the State besides strengthening primary education are glaring measures taken during the last about three years by the Omar-led Government in the State.
Similarly creation of J&K Information Commission under Right to Information Act, strengthening of Accountability Commission and making it functional besides measures taken to convert Vigilance Organizations into Vigilance Commission and initiating e-tendering and e-procurement in public service departments are seen befitting measures to tackle corruption in the State by the analysts. Enactment of Public Service Guarantee Act, holding of Panchayat elections and empowering Panchayats to participate in development are also right initiatives to reduce chances of corruption and enhance public participation in plan formation.
The health care sector has also received focused attention during the last about three years under Omar-led Government and its consolidation as well as expansion received concentrated attention. For this reason, the State’s healthcare service was adjudged No. 1 in the Country during the last year.
