Srinagar, Mar 15 (KMW): With the killing of a 17-year-old youth Farhat Dar at Naidkhah in Bandipora district of North Kashmir on Friday, authorities Saturday clamped curfew in sensitive parts in the district. Restrictions were also imposed at several areas of the old city while incidents of stone pelting were reported from some areas including Hajin and Baramulla.
According to the reports received by KMW, life came to standstill on Saturdayas the authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in several areas of downtown with the traffic off the roads and shops shut. The district administration told KMW over phone that the restrictions are in place at several ‘sensitive’ areas of Srinagar so that the law and order could not be disrupted. The reports maintained further that restrictions were imposed on peoples’ movement in various areas including Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Khaniyar and Rainawri areas.
Authorities also clamped Curfew in various areas of North Kashmir’s Bandipora where Dar was shot death and two others were injured during an alleged stone pelting incident at Naidkhai area of the district. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shah Faisal has already ordered magisterial probe into the firing incident that led to killing of Dar and has directed the Additional DC to monitor the investigations. Police too has registered FIR and have started inquest proceedings into the matter.
Meanwhile, the reports informed that the slain youth Farhat Dar was laid to rest with thousands of people reportedly attending his funeral prayers.
Meanwhile Kashmir University has issued a handout stating that all examinations scheduled to be conducted on Saturday by the varsity have been postponed and that new dates of examinations shall be issued in the near future.
According to police reports, situation remained peaceful throughout the Kashmir valley on Saturday However, a couple of stray stone pelting incidents were reported from Hajan and Cement-bridge, Baramulla. There were no reports of injury to anyone, till last reports came in. According to the KMW Srinagar correspondent, most of the separatist leaders were kept under house arrest on Saturday including Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik. Hurriyat (M) leader and People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmed War was arrested and put in Jail when he tried to lead a procession to protest the cold blooded murder of Kashmiris.
