B V R Subrahmanyam assumes office as Chief Secretary of J&K

SRINAGAR, JUNE 23(KMW): B V R Subrahmanyam took charge as Chief Secretary of J&K on Saturday. He assumed charge from the outgoing Chief Secretary B B Vyas at a simple ceremony held in the Chief Secretary’s office chamber here.

On his arrival at the Civil Secretariat here, B V R Subrahmanyam was welcomed by Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal, Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Principal Secretary Planning, Development & Monitoring Department, Rohit Kansal, Commissioner/Secretary, General Administration Department, Hilal Ahmad Parray and other senior officers.

A 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, B V R Subrahmanyam till recently served as Additional Chief Secretary Home, Chhattisgarh Government.

During his service career, Subrahmanyam has held key administrative positions in the Government of India. He was serving as Director in the Union Commerce Ministry, before being appointed as Private Secretary to the then Prime Minister during 2004-2008. He worked as a Senior Advisor with the World Bank from June 2008 to September 2011 before joining the PMO again in March 2012 as Joint Secretary.

He stayed in the PMO till March 2015 and then moved to his cadre state Chhattisgarh.

Mr Subrahmanyam has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a management degree from London Business School.

Immediately after assuming office as J&K Chief Secretary, Subrahmanyam chaired an introductory meeting with the Administrative Secretaries and emphasised on providing a transparent, accountable, responsive and people-centric administration in the state. He asked Administrative Secretaries to be accessible to the common people and provide effective leadership, guidance and the much needed impetus and direction to the Administrative machinery for delivering good governance and desired developmental outcomes.
