Srinagar: Director General Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad Saturdaysaid that they have to revisit their policy in the wake of recent attacks on policemen by the militants.
Talking to News Agency he said, “Militants have changed their strategy and after attacking sarpanches and panches, they are now attacking unarmed policemen. What we have to do is to sit down and change our strategy. We have to see what is best suited. We can secure ourselves without any problem but that will create problems for people.â€
The DGP said that they have to revisit their strategy and go after the perpetrators. “Police have to be there on roads. They (militants had done it (killing cops) last year also. This is not for the first time that they attack unarmed policemen on roads, this has happened before also. They (militants) are doing so to provoke the police,†Prasad said.
“We have to find out the long term solution. Though number of violent attacks is less this year compared to last year big issues now is that violence which is taking place is on security forces,†he added.
On infiltration he said, “The season for infiltration has stared which is nothing new. It is there for last 22 years that militants sneak in summer months.â€
Asked to comment on recent infiltration bid in Kupwara district, the DGP said, “One possibility is they (militants) returned back after army challenged them. Or if they are here we will have to find out them. However, the numbers are not alarming yet,†he told.
On killing of four policemen in Hygam last month, he said, “We have leads and it is being pursued. The person has been identified with high degree of probability. He has been there for the last 10 years. People who are already there for the last 10 years are involved in such incidents,†he added.
