Srinagar, Feb 27 (KMW): A soldier committed suicide after killing five of his colleagues and injuring another in 13 Rashitriya Rifles (RR) camp in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.
Police have confirmed the incident while defence ministry spokesman was not available to comment on the incident which took place after Army shot dead seven Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in the woods in frontier district of Kupwara on Monday.
Official sources said that a soldier entered a guard room at Safapora camp of 13 RR of Sector 3 and resorted to indiscriminate firing resulting in on the spot death of five soldiers and injuries to another.
Later the soldier also committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapons, they said.
A case has been registered in police station, they said. This was the first such incident in Kashmir valley in 2014. More than 50 Army, BSF and CRPF personnel were killed in similar incidents in the past. In one such case, a soldier was awarded life imprisonment for killing his commanding officer in Harwan camp.
