SRINAGAR: The Minister for CAPD and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon today chaired a high level meeting of concerned officers to take stock of essentials including foodgrains available in Food Corporation of India and CAPD godowns and other issued related to availability of basic amenities to people.
The Minister was briefed about stock position of essentials including rice, wheat, sugar, kerosene oil by the concerned authorities. Mr. Akhoon directed the concerned officers of CAPD and ADCs work in close coordination with Divisional Commissioner to ensure timely redressal of public grievances.
The Minister said that there is no shortage of essential in Valley and concerned officers must make extra efforts to make essentials available to consumers.
Meanwhile, the Minister hailed the efforts of the Divisional administration for restoring the power supply in the Valley. He directed the authorities to make efforts to restore all the roads in Valley.
On the occasion, the Minister was informed that presently 10359 metric tons of rice, 3579 metric tons of wheat and 1975 metric tons of sugar is available with Food Corporation of India, while 21960 metric tons of rice, 536 metric tons of wheat, 1019 metric tons of sugar has been lifted by the CAPD from FCI godowns. He was further informed that under APL and BPL and Adhoc allocation CAPD lifted 34000 metric tons of rice and 7010 metric tons of wheat. Besides, the meeting was informed that 139 LPG tankers are in transit from Jammu to Srinagar.
The meeting was also told that three truckloads of LPG, 14 kerosene oil tankers, 29 truckloads of rice, one each diesel and petrol tankers, 19 trucks loads of wheat and two truckloads of sugar have already reached Srinagar.
The Minister stressed upon the officers to gear up their activities for meeting any eventuality in the coming days. Referring to supply of kerosene oil to the consumers, the Minister said that additional quota has already been sanctioned. However, most important thing is to make it available to the consumers on priority.
Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asghar Hassan Samoon gave detailed resume of the steps taken at the divisional level for reducing the problems of the people. He said that sufficient stocks of essentials are available presently in the Valley while the position of the border areas is quite satisfactory and administration is focusing presently on rural areas. He informed the Minister that Divisional administration is working in coordination with all Deputy Commissioners of the Valley, Director CAPD, authorities of National Highway, Police, Traffic Police and Beacon for smooth sailing of the trucks of essential supplies.
Referring the adulteration issue, the Minister directed the Divisional Commissioner to hold the meeting with the concerned officers and discuss the issue thoroughly. He also told him to direct all the Additional Deputy Commissioners including Director CAPD to personally monitor the market checking for keeping a close watch on the rates so that the people of the Valley may get relief from the inflation as the prices of vegetables, fruits and pulses have already come down.
Referring the restoration of smooth traffic on the National Highway, the Minister asked the concerned authorities to keep a close coordination with the divisional administration.
Meanwhile, the Minister was informed that one lakh quintals of rice, 6000 quintals of sugar and 98000 quintals of wheat is presently available at CAPD.
The Minister was attended by Secretary, Mr. Abass, Transport Commissioner, Mr. Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan, Director CAPD, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad and other senior officers. (KMW News)
