People’s support mandatory for overall development: Sham

AKHNOOR: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has sought active involvement of public to ensure overall development of their areas. He said without the active support of the locals, the tangible targets cannot be accomplished, therefore, it is mandatory that people come forward and support the administration and help in ensuring development in all sectors.
Addressing a mammoth public meeting at a remote village Gard-Jamotian, near here, the Minister said that present Coalition regime is committed to provide better facilities to the people across the State, especially in the rural and far-flung areas and several steps in this direction have been initiated during the past three years.
He said for the fast-track development of rural areas, the Government prioritized the Panchayat elections, which were successfully conducted during 2011. The elected representatives have been conferred with the greater responsibilities and they are now custodian of their areas. The Government has also empowered them to take decisions at their level to fulfill the development requirements of their areas after fixing the priorities. He asked the ground level representatives to work with honesty, dedication, commitment and provide justice to the needy irrespective of caste, color and creed for which they have been voted for. He said people have high hopes from them and they must come up to their expectations, he added.
Mr. Sham said that Government will place funds for the development at the disposal of Sarpanchs in the next fiscal. He asked them not to be panicky, and ultimately they will be contributing to the society as per their capacity and mandate. It is endeavor of the Government to decentralize powers to the Panchayats to make the ground level institutions result oriented. He said Government is keen to affect 73rd and 74th amendments to further strengthen the Panchayati Raj and Local Bodies institutions, he asserted.
The Minister maintained that the politics should not come in the way of development of any area and people should make collective efforts to ensure it. He appealed the workers of different parties to join hands with the Government in ensuring need based development of their areas.
Responding to the demands of the locals, he assured that the Middle School, Dhok Khalsa will be upgraded soon. He also assured to upgrade the existing water supply scheme and road connectivity in the area. He directed the officers to formulate a comprehensive plan to upgrade these facilities in the area.
Chief Medical Officer, Jammu Dr. Baldev Sharma, SDM, Akhnoor Mr. N.S.Jamwal and all sectoral officers were also present on the occasion. (KMW News)
