Leh, Jan 09: The Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, chaired a meeting to discuss the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Apricot Dryer Processing Unit at the Conference Hall, UT Secretariat, Leh.

The Director of Industries & Commerce, Ladakh, briefed the Advisor about the agenda of the meeting. Nishit Ranjan, Consultant of the Industries Department, gave a detailed presentation on the DPR of the Apricot Processing Unit and various functional aspects of the processing unit. He informed that four units had been installed on a pilot project basis in Ladakh.

Detailed discussions and deliberations were held on every aspect of the apricot processing unit.

Dr. Pawan Kotwal instructed the Director of Industries & Commerce to install the processing units in consultation with local entrepreneurs or stakeholders to benefit local apricot producers. He also directed the Director of Industries and Horticulture to oversee the operation of the unit after its construction.

Dr. Kotwal further instructed the Director of Industries & Commerce to initiate four projects on a pilot basis and he asked the Director of Horticulture to develop apricot nurseries in Ladakh.

He directed the Secretary of Horticulture to constitute a committee to introduce the apricot processing unit in the region. He also instructed the Director of Industries to establish the units as per regulations and in consultation with local beneficiaries and to construct cold storage facilities alongside the units if needed.

The meeting was attended virtually and physically by Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Ghulam Mehdi; Principal Secretary, Sanjeev Khirwar; Secretary of Horticulture, Bhupesh Choudhary; Director of Industries & Commerce, Mohammad Nazir; Director of Horticulture, Tsewang Punchok; Councillor Kaltsi; and various stakeholders and entrepreneurs from Leh and Kargil.
