JAMMU: The Government today expressed deep regret on the tragic firing incident at Boniyar, Baramulla today and said it has taken a very serious view of the incident and has asked State Police to take immediate steps to bring those responsible for the incident to book.
This was stated by Principal Secretary, Home, Mr. BR Sharma, while addressing a press conference here today.
Mr. Sharma clarified that the residents of Rampora and Guntamula villages of tehsil Uri, District Baramulla were protesting against NHPC at Boniyar Uri, Baramulla. The firing incident occurred at around 1300-1330 hrs which resulted in death of one person namely Shri Mohammad Altaf Sood, S/o Bashir Ahmad R/o Boniyar, Baramulla. Two persons, namely Shri Parvaiz Ahmad, S/o Ghulam Hassan R/o Boniyar, Baramulla and Shri Abdul Majid S/o Wali Mohammad R/o Boniyar, Baramulla have received injuries, out of which one person has been discharged.
He said the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla and SSP Baramulla have immediately rushed to the spot. Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, has been directed to provide immediate ex-gratia to the NOKs of the deceased /injured persons.
Mr. Sharma said F.I.R No.01/2012 has been registered at Police Station Boniyar and five persons namely Sub-Inspector Krishan Thapa, Havaldar Dwarka Prashad, Constable Raju Ranjan, Constable Ajay Singh and Constable Mohammad Shabir have been arrested in this case.
He said that it has been has further clarified that the Central Industrial Security Forces(CISF), whose troops opened the fire, are not part of the CI (Counter Insurgency) Grid Operating in J&K and have been deployed by the NHPC exclusively for the security of their installations across the State.
Mr. Sharma further said the State Government has taken up the matter with the Union Home Ministry and lodged serious protest and demanded stern exemplary action against the delinquent officers.
He said the protest was against the NHPC and it was appropriate for the NHPC to have sought the assistance of the local law and order machinery rather than dealing with the situation on their own.
A High-level team comprising Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & FC, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Minister of State for Home and Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police has also reached the spot and are assessing the situation.(KMW News)
