4 Militants Killed In Kulgam, Kupwara

Srinagar: Four militants were killed in separate encounters in Kashmir Valley on Monday while the gunmen, who were trapped in Sopore managed to give the joint of police and Rastriya Rifles a slip.

Official sources said that two militants of Lashker-e-Toiba were killed in joint encounter with police team from Srinagar and 1st RR in Kaw Drang Qoimoh sin souther Kashmir’s Kulgam this afternoon.
Addressing a press conference here, SSP Srinagar Ashiq Bukhari said that the operation was launched following specific information about the presence of militants in the area. He also claimed to have arrested one militant of Lashker-e-Toiba alive from the spot and identified him as Azad Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Karim Bhat of Awat Shirmaal Shopian. The identity of the slain LeT militants was established in the form of Mohammad Salim Ganai alias Faisal of Haff Shirmaal Shopian and another as Hassan Bhai, a foreigner, the SSP said. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the slain militants, the Srinagar police chief claimed.
Two more militants were killed in Zachaldara-Handwara in north Kashmir.
Defence ministry spokesman based in Srinagar, Lt Col JS Brar said that two un-identified militants were killed in an encounter with troops of 21 RR and SOG at Bhawaan forests area in the Handwara.
The encounter, he said, started late last night. The combing operation in the area was still going on, when the last reports came in, he added.
Meanwhile, four militants who were trapped in an encounter at Ahad Bab Mohalla of Sopore, managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness, sources. One militant identified as Irshad Ahmad Mir son of Gulam Mohammad of Gungbrath Sopore was killed last night when the encounter between police and 22 RR started.
The slain militant was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans in his native village, the sources added.
