SRINAGAR, NOV 14: The government has slapped one more Public Safety Act (PSA) on the incarcerated Muslim League chairman Masrat Alam Bhat.
This is 37th PSA on him, according to Muslim League spokesperson while condemning his shifting to Hiranagar Jail in Jammu.
The League’s spokesperson Sajad Ayoubi said, “The court, while quashing the 35th PSA order against Masrat Aalam on 26.10.17 had directed the authorities to release him immediately. But instead of releasing, he was re-arrested in connection with a frivolous FIR of 2015 lodged against him in Handwara and slapped 36th PSA which stands invalid now as its has expired as per duration”.
This time, he has been re-arrested for an FIR lodged against him in Baramulla and slapped with one more PSA, which has been described as a “lawless law” by the amnesty international.
Ayoubi said that the government is afraid of Masrat Aalam’s popularity which is why he is being put behind bars again and again.
“It is the worst demonstration of political vendetta,” he added.
