Mumbai: A court here today convicted and sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 22-year-old woman in her Navi Mumbai residence in October 2011.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 on him.
Prosecutor Ashok Khamkar told the court that on October one, 2011, the accused Kajappa Nagnath Nadzone came to the house of the girl when no one was at home shortly before noon, started misbehaving with her and later raped her.
When the girl raised the alarm, the accused locked the house from inside and continued with his act.
The neighbours upon hearing the cries of the girl rushed and nabbed the accused, and handed him over to the Turbhe police.
Sessions Judge V V Virkar found the accused guilty under sections 376, 341 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code and awarded the sentence.
