Vijayawada, Jul 7: Director General of Fire service, N Sambasiva Rao said 1,267 people had perished and property worth Rs.681 crore was destroyed in the fire mishaps in Andhra Pradesh during the last five years.
At a review meeting here, he said 2,999 high intensity 12,960 major fire and 57,319 minor fire accidents had taken place during the period.
Mr.Rao informed that during the summer season, on an average, 100 to 110 fire mishaps take place while 0 to 25 mishaps occur in other seasons, per day.
There are 172 fire stations, over 220 fire tenders in the state while 3,200 staff are working in the fire department in the 13 districts.
The Director General of Fires said 126 firemen and 16 senior fire officer posts will be filled up soon. Various infrastructure development works were being taken up at a cost of Rs.25 crore, he added. (agency)
