Meerut, May 23: Ten Kashmiri students, who were expelled after being found guilty of cheering for Pakistani cricket team, have been allowed to appear in examination by the Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in this Uttar Pradesh district.
A disciplinary committee set up by the University found 10 students guilty of misconduct and damaging university property, vice-chancellor Prof Manzoor Ahmed today told.
“The 10 students have been permitted to appear in their exams. Once exams get over, they will be sent back home,” he apprised adding, they have also been provided hostel facility.
Earlier, the university administration had expelled these students, but the Centre had taken serious view of the matter.
The committee has also revoked the suspension of 57 other students.
More than two months ago, a controversy broke out when Swami Vivekanand Subharti University authorities asked all Kashmiri students to go home for allegedly cheering for the Pakistan team.
The 67 Kashmiri students of the SVSU were suspended for cheering for Pakistan cricket team’s victory in a cricket match with India on March 2. (Agency)
