Zardari wants energy plans actioned fast

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari here on Friday called for early implementation of all projects and plans aimed at meeting energy requirements of the country and enhancing oil and gas production besides reactivation of abandoned and depleted gas fields.

The President was speaking during a meeting held in the Presidency to take stock of oil and gas situation in the country.
The meeting presided over by the President was attended among others by Finance Minister Senator Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister
for Water & Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Senator Dr. Asim Hussain, Secretary General to the
President M. Salman Faruqui and other senior officials.
Briefing the meeting, Dr. Asim Hussain identified key issues facing oil and gas sector.
He also explained the proposed short (2011-12) as well as medium (2012-13) and long term measures (2013-14) for enhancing oil and gas production in the country and about the efforts afoot to recover gas from abandoned and depleted wells.
He also briefed the meeting on the progress thus far made on President’s earlier directive for reactivation of abandoned gas fields in the country to improve much needed energy supplies.
Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar briefed
on the proposed wind power projects in the country.
