Srinagar, June 27 (KMW): Terming youth as the torch bearers of economic and political freedom, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has stressed upon the young generation to shoulder their national responsibilities which would guarantee the future of happiness and progress in Kashmir.
According to a statement issued to KMW, addressing a Youth convention event at Shaheed-e-Millat Stadium Lal Bazaar today, Mirwaiz announced beginning of “Youth for Kashmir initiativeâ€. Declaring youth as the protectors of freedom struggle, he stated that the youth have offered innumerable sacrifices for the liberation movement. APHC Chairman stated that it was the first that the youth of valley have taken oath before a Hurriyat leader pledging they would take forward the social reform movement with full vigor, adding, and also would protect the cultural and religious identity of Kashmir.
On the occasion, around 1500 youth came forward to work as volunteers to run the social reform campaign.
Mirwaiz told youth that for an ill society, political freedom had no meaning. He stated that the youth should build their character according to Islamic teachings, adding, they should also work vigorously to eradicate ills from the society to lay foundation of a better future.
APHC Chairman stated that our youth was subjected to worst sufferings over the past 25 years. He further added that hundreds of youth are still in prisons and in torture centres besides they are being martyred to run peaceful freedom movement. Mirwaiz stated that our society has been caught in futile rituals, social ills, and sectarian issues. Apart from Ulemas, intellectuals, Imams, civil society, he stated that Kashmiri youth has also come to forward and take responsibility to deal with such issues in a polite manner.
APHC Chairman appealed Ulemas that instead of becoming spokesmen of their respective sects, they should promote Islamic teachings and principles for the creation of better society. Mirwaiz stated that following a conspiracy, Kashmiris were being divided and sub-divided to harm the collective identity and solidarity and unity. He stressed upon youth to become agents bringing collectiveness and unity in the society besides exposing the ill designs of conspirators.
APHC Chairman stated 50 years ago Shaheed-e-Millat laid the foundation of Awami Action Committee, adding, the reason for which it was founded, Hurriyat and AAC would continue to pursue it. Terming solution of Kashmir issue to bring peace in south Asia as inevitable, Mirwaiz stated that India should not misconstrue the situation on the ground. He stated that freed struggle could not be broken by using force on resistance leadership and people, adding, the liberation movement has become part of life of people and youth fully know their responsibilities in this regard. Mirwaiz expressed concern over the imprisonment of Kashmiris including youth outside the jails. He said they were being kept in bad conditions and international human rights organizations should take strong notice of the grave issue.
