World Tuberculosis Day observed in Kargil, CEC calls for special fund for TB patients

Kargil, March 24: The District TB Center Kargil today observed World Tuberculosis Day at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall, Kargil, under the theme “Yes! We Can End TB – Commit, Invest, Deliver.” The event aimed to raise awareness about TB and strengthen efforts to eliminate the disease.

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon attended the event as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kargil was the guest of honor. Several doctors, BMOs, college students, GNM nursing students, ASHA workers, and other stakeholders were present.

Addressing the gathering, CEC Dr. Akhoon congratulated the TB team for their efforts and thanked J&K Bank for providing essential commodities to TB patients.

He appreciated Deputy Commissioner Kargil for his contribution to the fight against TB and suggested a special fund provision for TB patients. Sharing his experience as a doctor, he noted that TB cases are now rare but emphasized the need for continued efforts to eliminate the disease and remove its social stigma. He also commended Dr. Mohd Abass for his dedication and assured full support from the Hill Council Kargil.

DC Kargil called for a mass survey to detect TB cases and assured full support from the district administration. He also thanked the Ni-kshay Mitras for their contribution and urged people to support the initiative.

CMO Kargil emphasized that TB is curable and called for the cooperation of government departments, NGOs, and the community. He also shared details of various health department initiatives to control TB.

Senior Consultant Physician, Dr. Ghulam Hussain Bardi, presented a PowerPoint presentation covering topics such as TB symptoms, prompt triage, proper sputum collection methods, and government policies to reduce TB cases.

Earlier, in his welcome address, District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Mohd Abass, highlighted various initiatives and achievements of the TB program in Kargil. A theatrical play was performed by the RANThAG Theatre Group to address the social stigma surrounding TB.

As part of the event, certificates and mementos were distributed to stakeholders in recognition of their contributions to TB control efforts.
