Women’s Day Celebrated with Mass Participation Sports Event at Astro Turf Ground, Kargil

Kargil, March 08, 2026: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Astro Turf Football Ground, Kargil, with a mass participation sports event aimed at encouraging women and girls to actively engage in sports and physical fitness.

The event was jointly organized by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Youth Services & Sports UT Ladakh, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kargil as part of the nationwide initiative to promote women’s participation in sports.

ASP Kacho Istayak graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Rinchen Dolkar attended the program as the Guest of Honour. They appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of sports in empowering women and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 200 girls, who actively took part in various activities organized on the occasion, with a large gathering present to cheer and encourage the participants. The competitive athletics events included 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters races, conducted in different age categories — Under 13 years, 13–18 years, and above 18 years. In addition to the competitive races, several fun activities were also organized to make the celebration more engaging and inclusive.

At the conclusion of the event, certificates and medals were distributed to the participants in recognition of their participation and sporting spirit.

The program concluded with a Swachhta (cleanliness) initiative at the Astro Turf Football Ground, where participants and organizers collectively participated in cleaning the venue and spreading awareness about maintaining cleanliness.
