Srinagar: Special Operations Group (SOG) of police has arrested father, brother and a neighbor of a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant accused of killing mother of a policeman on Sunday this week.
Correspondent from Jammu said that Jamal-ud-Din and Khair Din, brother and father of Lashkar Commander Habib Gujjar alias Salman were arrested by SOG during a raid at Keshwar area of Kishtwar district last night. Salman’s neighbor, Shahid Baro was also whisked away.
Quoting police sources, correspondent said that a massive manhunt has been launched in the area to trace Salman and his associates.
On Sunday, a group of suspected militants barged into the Nadigad residence of SOG man Qasim Gujjar and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates. The attack left Qasim’s mother, Gujra Begum dead, while his wife and two children were wounded.
Police sources said that the militants were led by Salman, whose uncle was killed in an encounter with police at Gujjar Mohalla, a day earlier.
“To revenge the killing of his uncle, Salman attacked the family of the policeman. The militants who carried out the attack have been identified,” they added.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kishtwar, Dr Haseeb Mughal said that the trio has been picked up for questioning in connection with the killing.
