Bangalore: Vice-President Hamid Ansari today exhorted people belonging to minority communities to acquire new skills to keep pace with the fast changing world.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of golden jubiliee celebration of Arabic College here.
Dr Ansari urged the community to stand firm in their beliefs, but adapt themselves to the changing global situation.
He said one must not wait till the government provides all facilities, but extend their hand and seek what they want.
Speaking about secular ideals of the country, he narrated an incident where a German leader had asked him how a country with divergent views and beliefs was being run.
The Vice-President said he told the German leader that in the circle of faith, all were treated as equal and accommodated within this circle. Hence, the country was ruled without many hassles.
Karnataka Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj, in his address, said India was a large hearted country that had given space for all beliefs and faiths. He stressed that Article 14 of the constituetion that propogates the right to equality was the contribution of Islam to humanity.
