Vigilance books SMC, SICOP officials in corruption case

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) has registered an FIR against six officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and SICOP officials besides a printing press for causing a loss of Rs 8.58 lakh to state exchequer.
A VO spokesman said here today that a corruption case was registered against Ghulam Mohammad Mir, then purchase and procurement officer, SMC in league with Mohammad Yousuf Dalal, then stores officer, SMC, Javaid Ahmad Tramboo, then Senior Assistant, Mohammad Altaf Beigh, then Marketing Manager, SICOP, Mohammad Yousuf, then Marketing Manager, SICOP and Imtiyaz Ahmd, proprietor M/S EXXON printing press, Srinagar.
During the investigation, it was established that Ghulam Mohammad Mir had deceitfully obtained an approval of planning and finance committee for purchase of 60,000 birth and death certificates through SICOP under a conspired plan on a forged letter indicating in-ability of stationery department to provide printing items during the year 2006 at the rate of Rs 16.50 per certificate against the approved rate by the SICOP during the relevant period at Rs 4.84 per certificate.
In this way, the accused officials in a well knit conspiracy in the supplier proprietor M/S EXXON printing press have put state exchequer to the loss of Rs 8.58 lakh for their pecuniary benefits.
He said further investigation of the case is in progress.
