Chennai: Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko today condemned the Centre for allowing Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit India and witness the World Cup final in Mumbai.
Taking exception to the Centre allowing the Lankan President to enjoy the cricket match after honouring him at the Commonwealth Games, Mr Vaiko, in a statement here, said it was unfortuante that Mr Rajapaksa, who had killed lakhs of Tamils, was being allowed to visit the country.
Accusing the Lankan President of committing genocide like Nazi killer Adolf Hitler, Mr Vaiko, a staunch supporter of the LTTE, said when there was growing demand that Mr Rajapaksa be asked to face the International Court of Justice, the Indian Government cotninued to honour him.
He said the Indian Government was holding the Lankan President in high esteem as it had helped the island nation, its fight against the LTTE.
The Lankan Government after killing hundreds and thousands of Tamils was encouraging Sinhalese colonisation in the Tamil areas.
Alleging that Mr Rajapaksa had carried out the genocide and committed war crimes, Mr Vaiko said it hurt a lot as the Indian Government had honoured him in the Commonwealth Games and now invited him to witness the World Cup, giving a scant respect to the sentiments and feelings of the Tamils.
When an Indian was killed in Australia, the Indian Government raised its voice loudly. However, when 61 children were massacred at Sencholai in the Tamil areas in Sri Lanka, India turned a blind eye, he said.
