Srinagar: Senior legislator and National Conference leader, Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal Thursday said that it was India’s former Army chief General V.K.Singh who put Army Units at the disposal of Peoples Democratic Party candidates during 2002 elections and helped them to come off with flying colours.

Kamal told Srinagar based news agency that General V.K.Singh is the person who fulfilled the desire of Mufti Muhammad Sayed to occupy the Chair of Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Singh was the commander in 2002 at Awantipora and he assigned job to scores of Army officers who rigged the elections and brought Peoples Democratic Party into lime light. Now, PDP wants to save the General and are ready to play Machiavellian politics,” he said.

Kamal revealed that just before the Assembly elections in 2002, General V.K.Singh had called an important meeting of his subordinate Army officials and had invited PDP patron in that meeting.

“The strategy to wipe out National Conference from the political scene was chalked out in the meeting. If you don’t believe me, go and ask their own member, Molvi Iftikar Hussain Ansari and he would tell you the truth,” Kamal told CNS.
