Urdu crash courses for revenue officials soon: Bukhari

SRINAGAR, JUNE 13: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Syed Basharat Bukhari today said that the importance of Urdu is paramount as all the official records are preserved through the medium of the language, and it should be duty of everybody to work for its promotion and propagation.
Speaking on a Private Members’ resolution moved by Mr. Naresh Gupta regarding filing up of posts of Tehsildars from Urdu knowing officers having command and sufficient knowledge of the language, the Minister said that for the revenue officials the Government is intending to organize crash courses, so that they will get acquainted with the usage of Urdu language in their official communication and maintenance of records.
The Minister also said that the revenue manual would also be provided to Tehsildars and Naib-Tehsildars for official reference purposes.
Supporting the resolution Mr. Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that the resolution is in the interest of people.
Mr. Ashok Khajuria demanded that steps should be taken for promotion of the language and parents across the state should teach Urdu language to their children.
Mr. Surinder Choudhary while supporting the resolution said that Urdu language should be made compulsory, so that people living in far flung areas can easily check their land and revenue records.
Mr. Gulam Nabi Monga said that the revenue officials should have a sound knowledge of Urdu so that they don’t face any problem in understanding the system.
Mr. Sajad Kichloo demanded making Urdu mandatory in schools till 10th standard.
Mr. Saifu-Ud-Din Bhat said that the Government should conduct crash, refresher courses for the newly recruited officers.
Mr. Firdous Tak said that it is essential to pass the resolution as there are some revenue officers in State, who are unfamiliar with the Urdu language which is affecting work in the Department.
Mr. Sofi Yusuf suggested recruit only Urdu speaking persons in the Revenue Department.
Mr. Jugal Kishore said that only Urdu knowing people should be considered for new recruitment of Naib-Tehsildar posts.
