Srinagar: Cold conditions further intensified in the Kashmir valley, where the upper reaches experienced fresh snowfall while plains had light to moderate rains since last night, forcing people to use ”Kashmiri Kangris” and other gadgets to keep themselves warm.
Kashmir Disaster management Chief Aamir Ali said there would be rain in the plains and snow on upper reaches today and tomorrow.
The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu and 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highways were through for traffic. The lifeline to Leh remained closed for six winter months due to snowfall between Sonmarg to Drass every year.
Light drizzling was witnessed in summer capital, Srinagar, where the civil secretariat, seat of the government, including the office of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his cabinet colleagues, top bureaucrats and other heads of departments will close on October 28 to reopen in winter capital, Jammu on November 7.
The sky was cloudy, resulting in severe cold conditions, after the mountains in the outskirts, including Harwan experienced light snowfall early this morning.
Trees in higher reaches in Harwan had turned white, clearly visible from a distance, much to the delight of tourists visiting the Harwan garden today.
