Union Home Minister visits Kargil, reviews developmental scenario

KARGIL: Union Minister for Home, Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is on visit to Jammu and Kashmir state took review of development scenario of Kargil district at a high level meeting convened here today.
The Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon, Chairman and Executive Councilor Kargil Development Council Mr. Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan, Minister of State for Home Mr. Nasisr Aslam Wani, Executive Councilors Haji Ghulam Aamir, Mr. Poonchuk Tashi, Chief Secretary Mr. Madhav Lal, Director General of Police Mr. Ashok Prasad, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Mr. B. B. Vyas, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Mr. Razak and other senior officers attended the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil through power point presentation presented the development scenario of Kargil and status of various centrally sponsored schemes being executed in the district.
It was informed that under Union Government has sanction Rs 270 crore for the construction of Solar Power Plant and hydro-electric projects in the district and these projects are under execution in the district.
For creating and upgrading basic infrastructure Rs 50 crore has been provided under special task force programme and under the council infrastructure plan of Rs 40 crore have been allocated for various developmental projects which are under execution in the district.
The meeting was briefed about the damage caused to property due to flash floods during previous year and the measures under taken by state government for reconstruction of damaged structures. It was said due to flash floods 1451 schemes got affected and 992 schemes have been restored fully till date and during current financial year an amount of Rs 71.49 crore are being spent on various developmental schemes under the District Plan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Home Minister said that UPA Government has accorded priority to these areas which are backward and lag behind on the development scenario. He said government is aware of the problems of the people of far-flung backward pockets like Kargil and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is personally striving to provide better facilities to the people of such areas. He also praised the people of Kargil for their bravery and patriotism. He said that funds for completing of Z-Tunnel and other demands would be looked into and due attention would be paid in this behalf.
The Minister said that Central Government has offered special concession in educational qualification and physical para-meters for the recruitment of youth in para-military forces for the people of Kargil and other likewise areas and special drive will be launched here in near future.
Earlier, the Union Minister was accorded warm reception at Kargil Airport on his arrival.
The State Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon and Chief Executive Councilor Kargil Mr. Ahmad Ali Khan thanked the Union Government for their liberal funding to the district and also projected their demands. (KMW News)
